This tournament was a two-man team scramble tournament at Forest Akers East golf course. There were 28 student participants, 6 faculty, and 2 alumni. It was a beautiful day for a golf tournament, but the wind was a little gusty. All the participants played 18 holes and fished with scores from 5 under par to 10 over par. The tournament was more geared toward the students with all played extremely well for the gusty wind. One of the last groups had our winners in, so all around the students had great scores.
The winning group was Ryan Watson and Jon Rawlik. They shot a low score of 67 on a par 72 course. They came to the tee box on the last hole, one stroke off the lead. The 18th hole on the course is a 254 yard par four and the wind was blowing hard left to right. Ryan and Jon hit their drives right of the green and had a tough chip to get up on the green. Jon hit his second shot to about ten feet, and he ended the hole by making the ten foot birdie putt to win the Michigan State IM Golf Tournament. It was a great putt to finish a great round that finished a great tournament.
Overall, this tournament had a great turnout and everyone that participated really enjoyed themselves. Couldn’t have asked for a better day for a golf tournament.

A brisk but sunny day greeted the field of participants at the “2010 Scramble to Vegas” Golf Outing hosted by the Rutgers Recreation Department at the Rutgers University Golf Course on Friday, October 22nd. Sixty-two participants braved the gusty New Jersey winds to compete for a chance to play in sunny Las Vegas. The first pair to tee off, Jesse Prevost and Kyle Fardelmann, posted a 68 that would stand as the score to beat until the second to last foursome arrived at 18. With seven birdies and only two bogies, Michael Moken and Parag Shah were able to take the top spot with a 6-under par score of 66 and a trip to the NCGC Championship in Las Vegas. Matching their long drives, strong putting and 6-under score was the alumni pair of Adam Satkowski and Brian Bartok who be will return to Vegas after earning their first trip as students at the university a couple of years ago. Despite the cold temperatures, Casey Vitale managed to win the long drive competition hammering a 280-yard shot down the middle of the fairway. Matt Kuchtyak demonstrated his finesse with a “Closest-to-the-pin” shot that landed a mere 11’7” from hole on the par three 17. The last foursome managed to sink their putt on 18 just as the sun fell behind the evergreen skyline and the Rutgers “Scramble to Vegas” came to a close.

The NCGC Local Qualifying Golf Tournament for the University of Illinois was held Sunday, September 26, 2010. Thirty-three, 2-person teams registered for this years event, held at the University of Illinois Golf Course.
Upon arrival at the course, teams were given the opportunity to win a variety of great golf prizes and gifts by participating in three different skills contests: longest drive, chipping accuracy, and putting. AlmostGolf Ball practice balls were used for the longest drive and chipping contests. Nearly every player participated in the skills contests and lots of great prizes were given awarded. The three skills challenges proved to be a great way for most of the golfers to warm up prior to their scheduled tee times.
Pizza and complimentary drinks were provided for all of the participants beginning at Noon. In addition to the prizes and food, each player participating in the tournament received a great commemorative t-shirt, designed especially for this years event (see attached design) and a U of I greens repair tool. As was the case at the inaugural event held in 2009, players could not believe everything they received simply by registering for a golf tournament.
- 18 holes of golf with a cart
- Commemorative T-Shirt
- U of I Ball Mark Repair Tool
- Free Papa Johns Pizza
- Two Complimentary Drinks
- Prizes awarded for Skills Competitions prior to tournament
- 1 Year Free Subscription to Golf Digest
and all for the low price of $15 per player
And I almost forget, AND a possible expense paid trip to Las Vegas to compete in the National Collegiate Golf Championships!
The expressions on their faces and the reactions they had each time a new item was mentioned was priceless! Many mentioned that this event was truly the highlight of their time at Illinois.
All in all, the players had a great time, the golf course and it's management team were great to work with, and the Campus Rec professional staff which volunteered their time did an excellent job the day of the event.

On a beautiful Sunday morning in Iowa City, 36 golfers ascended upon Finkbine Golf Course at The University of Iowa to compete in the Local Qualifier for the National Collegiate Golf Championships. The course had received a quite a bit of rain during the week, making the greens soft and allowing the players to go aggressively at every pin. After the scores were tabulated, the team of Matt Morse and Chris Foster from Palmer Chiropractic College emerged as the winner with a score of 64, eight under par. One stroke back was the University of Iowa team of Andy Berg and Brian Nelson with 65. The faculty/staff/community division only had one team, however the champions of that division, Matt Billett and Jon Garfinkel, shot a respectable 69, three under par.
The event held a Coca-Cola chipping contest where players tried to chip into a basket to win a free Coke. Eight of the 36 players made the chip. We also had hole contests and the winners were Greg Gregory (longest drive), Mike Morrical (closest to the pin), and Robin Donegan (longest putt). Following the round the players enjoyed a lunch provided by The University of Iowa Recreational Services Intramural Staff.
The University of Iowa would like to thank the CGA and all the national and local sponsors for their support of our event. We look forward to the opportunity to host again in 2011.

Miami, FL
The University of Miami hosted its 2010 Local Qualifier at Miami Springs Golf Club in Miami, FL on Friday, October 8th. The field was filled with competitors eager to win contests and ultimately the trip to Nationals in Las Vegas, Nevada. It was a perfect afternoon with clear skies and cool breeze out of the north as everyone teed off.
All players were around par for the first 9-holes except three teams, Matt Baren/Marc Hershan, Ryan Rosin/Tom Stewart, and David Lee/Jason Weintraub which were around -2 to -3 under par. The wind eventually played a factor as David Lee/Jason Weintraub adjusted their play to be the most consistent of the field. Although Baren/Hershan and Rosin/Stewart were shooting well in the beginning, they waivered in the final stretch costing them a chance to win the tournament. Lee/Weintraub played consistently as mentioned before, only bogieng one hole the entire tournament.
